Graduating with several top honors from North Dakota State University with Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design degrees, his 25+ years of professional experience span the Northwest and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. Brian’s career has concentrated heavily on K-12 learning environments including the planning and design of over 1 million square feet of educational space. He has served as a volunteer for the National AIA Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) since 2009 and was appointed the national Co-Chair for the K-12 Education Subcommittee for the CAE from 2011 through 2015. In 2016 Brian was elevated to the Executive Leadership Group of the CAE where he served as Chair in 2020. He frequently serves on awards juries and is a regular speaker at national and regional conferences on subjects influencing K-12 educational design.

In 2021 Brian will serve his third year on the National AIA Board Government Advocacy Committee supporting the AIA in their advocacy and policy efforts. Brian has worked to help improve school safety and security design through multiple nationally published articles, national webinars, and speaking engagements with multiple organizations including the AIA, EdSpaces, NFPA, the National Institute of Building Sciences, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

A strong proponent of being straightforward and open when communicating with education clients and all members of a design team, Brian believes, “A successful project reaches a balance of all design considerations through compliment rather than compromise”.
